Muslims in America versus Lowe’s Stores
Recently there was an up roar over Lowe’s Home Improvement pulling its ads from the TLC show All-American Muslim in response to an organization claiming the show “falsely humanized Muslims in America.” I was a bit disappointed by the Lowe’s brand actions but not really surprised. Still it was encouraging to see the reaction for supporters of the show and the American Muslim community, like high profile celebrity Russell Simmons who spoke out against Lowe’s actions
But it’s not just celebrities who are speaking out against Islamophobia in America. I recently learned about the My Fellow American project, which is trying to prevent and overcome racial issues like this in America.
Visitors to the site can share what controversies like this means to them. There’s also various content to help spread the message of tolerance from various entertainers and faith leaders on this topic.

As an African-American woman, I wouldn’t like it if someone mistreats me because of the color of my skin and wouldn’t support their establishments because of it. Once in a while, I do go to Lowe’s for tidbits, but if they are treating people badly because of their color of their skin and/or religion, then I will stop going there. I can’t see myself going to a business that discriminates against other’s because of who they are. on top of that, they must forgot Muslims also patronize their business and work for them( At least in the couple of Lowes businesses that I’ve seen where)
I’ve never been against the Muslim faith and never will. I’m not afraid of them because educated people would know better. I don’t fear Muslim, but I fear critics who spread lies and hate about others.
This is the first time I heard about My Fellow American. The trailer is amazing.
I don’t like the way they are dehumanizing a group of people just based on the religion and their culture–its a dang shame. Since when is this supposed to be a fight about religion, Christianity vs. Islam? It’s just not right.
The only fear that man has, is fear that he creates within himself. He then projects it on the world. Always needing someone else to blame for actions and problems in the world.
As a black woman, I do not like to be discriminated against, nor do I condone that type of behavior. Just think about the next generation that’s being raised with this kind of thinking.
